5 Tips for a Successful Business Blog

Everyone is starting a blog. Or telling you to start a blog. But where do you start? How do you make it a worthwhile piece of content where people are going to come and read what you’ve written?

Start with these 5 easy tips and you’ll be on your way to pro blogging in no time!

1. Identify your content

Writing a bunch of blogposts that could be for anyone may work for a personal blog, but not when it comes to business. When it comes a business blog, keep it to what you excel in: anything and everything that has to do with your business. Think of the unique content you could create.

Key questions to ask yourself:

  • Will there be enough to write regular content (at least one post per week)?
  • What different and unique takes could you make on content in your industry?

2. Identify your audience

Your audience more than likely consists of your customers and potential customers. Now, take a minute to think about this group of people: are there any audiences you’re missing that would also be interested in your content? Really be creative – just like with your content – when you think abut your audience. It could be more widely spread than you think!

Key questions to ask yourself:

  • Who is your primary audience?
  • Who are potential secondary audiences (related, but perhaps not direct customers)?
  • Who else might be interested in your content and have the ability to bring you business?

3. Create a plan

Like many things in business, choosing to blog is nothing – and will more than likely be unsuccessful – without a plan.

Key questions to ask yourself:

  • Who will be creating the content?
  • What will the “workflow” of content look like? For example, will one person be responsible for ideas, another for writing, another for editing?
  • Do you have the infrastructure for an editorial calendar ready to go?

4. Create powerful content

Now that you’ve done plenty of prep work, it’s time to write. After all, your blog will be unsuccessful without creating powerful content to attract readers.

Key questions to ask yourself:

5. Keep your readers coming back for more

Last, but certainly not least, we want to keep our readers interested in the long run. That means making it simple to interact with you and your blog, get regular email updates whenever you post something new, and more.

  • Are you regularly creating links throughout your content that lead readers to other posts and pages on your site?
  • Do you have a call to action on every single post?
  • Do you have a subscription option that is easy to find?
• Do you offer social media sharing options?
